A new global omega-3 status map[1] indicates that adults in most regions of the world have a low to very low status of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly EPA and DHA. The first analysis of its kind, it is hoped that the findings can be used when developing both national and global guidelines regarding omega-3 intake.
A global understanding of omega-3 levels
The map is part of a new structured review, published in Progress in Lipid Research. It was created by analyzing 298 studies of EPA and DHA levels in the bloodstreams of healthy adults across the world, identifying which regions are more at risk of chronic illness. Regions classified as having very low EPA and DHA blood levels (<4%) included North, South and Central America, Central and Southern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa. The Sea of Japan, Scandinavia and regions with indigenous populations or populations who have not adopted Westernized food habits were classified as having high status of EPA and DHA (>8%).
The regions with a higher omega-3 status, such as Scandinavia and the Sea of Japan, tend to consume a larger amount of fish than other regions, and often a lower amount of omega-6 fatty acids from vegetable oil sources. The regions with low omega-3 levels are widespread – particularly in the Western world. It may not only reflect their dietary habits, but also consumer attitudes towards supplementation.
Public health implications
As stated by the World Health Organization, non-communicable diseases are estimated to be the cause of death of approximately 38 million people worldwide every year.[2] Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA in particular) have long been associated with decreased risk of cardiovascular conditions[3] and cognitive decline[4]. The paper highlights that a significant proportion of the population are at increased risk of non-communicable diseases due to low omega-3 status.
A strong case for health authorities
There is now a strong case for health authorities to issue recommendations relating to omega-3 and reduction in the risk of experiencing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cognitive decline. It is also hoped that this will lead to other recommendations in this area, such as a healthy diet and increased physical activity.
With the comprehensive analysis of data now available, these new recommendations will not only give the general population guidance on adequate omega-3 intake, but also highlight the risks of low levels of bloodstream EPA and DHA.

Breaking Down the Headlines: Vitamin Supplementation During Pregnancy
In Expert opinion · Mon Aug 08 22:00:00 CEST 2016
Recent headlines have warned women that vitamin supplements in pregnancy are a “pointless waste of money,” seemingly discouraging micronutrient supplementation at this crucial time. Check the story behind the headlines.

There is a growing preference for organic, antibiotic- and preservative-free, and locally-sourced food in the developed world, according to a new US report.
The report, Food Safety: In a State of Transformation, published in July this yeae examines the food safety practices of some 60 US companies throughout the food supply chain, as well as 30 companies that offer food safety solutions.
The report noted that some customers have asked to have additives in processed meat removed even though those additives inhibit the growth of Listeria, a type of bacterium that infects humans and other warm-blooded animals through contaminated food.
The further noted that demand for raw/unpasteurized milk has grown despite the fact that raw milk products are 150 times more likely to cause health issues than their pasteurized counterparts.
“Organic, antibiotic- and preservative-free, and locally sourced products do not inherently entail increased food safety risks,” said the report.

Avocado seeds are high in antioxidants that help prevent premature aging. In addition to this, they also contribute to the production of collagen, preventing the early appearance of wrinkles and making the skin look smooth.
7
They fight cataracts
Avocado seeds may even help prevent cataracts from forming. Just apply a few drops of avocado oil from the seed to the eyes, in the morning and evening. The oil should be fresh and free from any bacteria or contamination.
8
They make hair shine
The natural oil contained in avocado seeds is similar to olive oil extract. It’s used for cosmetic purposes, and one of its greatest benefits is providing incredible shine to hair, in addition to preventing dandruff.
9
They help the thyroid
According to European medical research, the avocado seed has nutrients and essential properties that can help control thyroid problems, especially beneficial for people with obesity.
How you can take advantage of avocado seeds?
Considering all the benefits of avocado seeds, we hope that the next time you consume this fruit you don’t just throw out the seed. To obtain its wonderful benefits, you can prepare avocado seeds in teas, add them to salads or smoothies, among other ideas. But always wash them well and be sure to dry them, try them grated, or toasted.

Beef Bone Broth
Ingredients
3
pounds beef soup bones (knuckle, neck, or marrow bones)
1
cup water
4
medium carrots, cut up
3
medium onions, unpeeled and cut up
6
stalks celery with leaves, cut up
2
tablespoons dried basil
or thyme, crushed
1
tablespoon salt
20
whole black peppercorns
16
sprigs fresh parsley
4
bay leaves
6
cloves garlic, unpeeled and halved
18
cups cold water
2
tablespoons cider vinegar Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Place soup bones in a large shallow roasting pan. Roast about 45 minutes or until browned, turning once.
Place soup bones in a 10- to 12-quart stockpot. Pour the 1 cup water into the roasting pan and scrape up browned bits; add water mixture to pot. Add the remaining ingredients. Bring to boiling; reduce heat to low. Gently simmer, covered, 8 to 12 hours. (For a gentle simmer, you should see tiny bubbles coming to the surface. You will want to monitor cooking so it does not boil. Gentle cooking helps to draw out and develop the flavor of the broth.) Remove soup bones from broth.
Scoop out as many vegetables as you can with a slotted spoon. Strain broth through 4 layers of 100-percent-cotton cheesecloth placed in a colander. Discard vegetables and seasonings.
If using the broth while hot, skim fat. Or chill broth in a bowl at least 6 hours; lift off fat with a spoon. Place broth in airtight containers. Cover and chill up to 3 days or freeze up to 6 months.
If desired, when bones are cool enough to handle, remove meat. Chop meat; discard bones. Place meat in airtight containers. Cover and chill up to 3 days or freeze up to 3 months.

For stovetop cookers, bring up to pressure over medium-high heat according to manufacturer's directions; reduce heat enough to maintain steady (but not excessive) pressure according to manufacturer's directions. Cook for 1 1/2 hours. Remove from heat. For electric and stovetop models, let stand to release pressure naturally for at least 15 minutes or according to manufacturer's directions. If necessary, carefully open steam vent to release any remaining pressure. Open lid carefully. Continue as directed in recipe. Makes about 10 cups.

Per 1 cup: 29 cal., 1 g fat (0 g sat. fat), 9 mg chol., 136 mg sodium, 1 g carb., 0 g fiber, 4 g pro.
THE BONES:
Look for soup bones at your meat counter. Neck bones, back bones, and marrow bones are good choices. Ask your butcher to cut the marrow bones into 2 to 3 inch lengths; this helps expose more of the marrow. You also can save bones from pot roasts and steaks to use for stock. Simply store them in an airtight container in the freezer until you are ready to use them. Be super thrifty and save your bones from prepared broth. They can be reused for another batch of broth. The broth won't have as much flavor in the second round, but will still make good broth.

My Olive Tree was birthed out of a heart to support the land and the people of Israel.
It was in 2004 when I first sat down with the then, Finance Minister, now Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and we discussed a huge humanitarian aid initiative that I was involved in—a project that was bringing in over 20 million dollars worth of aid into the nation of Israel.
It was an enormous undertaking, and the Finance Minister was grateful and polite when he opened up to express his heartfelt concern for the people of Israel. You see, he did not want Israel to become a country dependent on charity, but rather, a country that prospers through economic independence.
Wistia video thumbnail4:34
It was a few years later while attending a meeting in Israel, when the “concept” of My Olive Tree was presented to us...
My first reaction was, “No way!”
But the Israelis in the meeting eagerly said, “You can plant a million olive trees… a plan to help make Israel economically independent… You can do this!”
My answer again was, “No… this is not for me.” And then I felt the prompting of the Lord to step outside of our meeting place. He then began to show me a vision of a blue and green globe, and said, “Do you see all of those little green spots? I planted all of those without your help.”
That was when My Olive Tree began… and it has since grown and is still growing!
Today, through the help of thousands of people around the world, we have planted over 20,000 partner sponsored olive trees throughout Israel—a far cry from the HUGE vision of one million—but we are diligently moving forward to reach that goal!
When My Olive Tree first began sponsoring olive trees, we planted in the Galilee area.
It was exciting to see the vision unfold and for our partners to LITERALLY take root in the Holy Land! And then a few years later the opportunity became available to expand our efforts and begin planting in the Negev Desert. Again, thousands of sponsors rallied together to leave a living legacy and a living memorial in Israel. Like David Ben-Gurion you all jumped on the chance to be pioneers!
The first Prime Minister of Israel, David Ben-Gurion was focused on breathing life into the Negev Desert… and you as our sponsors have shown that you share his vision and have hence breathed new life into the goal of sponsoring one million trees.
You heard Isaiah’s cry and Ben-Gurion’s cry, and you answered back with resounding support!

It is incredible to know that our supporters, that’s YOU, are helping fulfill the goals of the projects...
…by bringing the wastelands to life—expanding the greenbelt into the desert to create livable habitats for families to return to the land of their Father.
Your gift is literally taking root in the land of Israel, saying, “You belong. Through faith, I belong. We belong!”
You see, more than anything, your sponsorships give hope and speak of friendship and solidarity. Your trees say to Israel and her people: I see you right now and I believe in your history—your past, your present, your future, and your right to exist.
Your tree is a statement that you realize Israel’s future—acknowledging her potential—her promise.
Your tree is not just a gift for today. Your tree is a living legacy—a living memorial.
A few years ago My Olive Tree was asked to plant several very large mature olive trees (30-40 years old) in a special place in Jerusalem called the King’s Valley. This area in the valley, which is part of the larger Kidron Valley, located east of King David’s palace, is believed to have once been a garden for the ancient King’s of Israel. And perhaps most importantly, it is also very symbolic that this area is on the hills below the Mount of Olives where the Messiah expected to return.

Let me tell you a little bit about phase one...
The city of Jerusalem is, without a doubt, the most unique city in the entire world because the Word says that God put His name on this city. It seems that the whole world battles to bless, or curse, the city of Jerusalem. The scripture says that we are not to forget her because… “so goes Jerusalem so goes the whole world.”
In the 25 years that I have been working in Israel I have never seen a more unique project for releasing blessings that you can physically see and receive.
“For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey.”— Deuteronomy 8:7-8
Restoring the Seven Species of Israel according to Deuteronomy 8:7-8—bringing back these five trees and two grains in the Kidron Valley between the Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives, and preparing the King’s Valley for the Return of the King is a most exciting opportunity. This is not just about fulfilling Bible prophecy, but it is about an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love and promise by saying to Jerusalem, “I will not forget you!”
Curt_Landry_Ministries_onenewman_header
Yeshua will not forget you. The Jews will not forget you. The Christians will not forget you.
“Where the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, to the Testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord.”—Psalm 122:4
In this Psalm, King David is speaking about Jerusalem being the place where the tribes go up. It is very exciting to know that over 3 million tourists travel to Jerusalem annually—traversing up and down either side of this valley—and The King’s Valley project is planting the Seven Species of Israel in the midst of it!
This is truly an opportunity for an incredible testimony!
My Olive Tree has partnered with the Jerusalem Park’s Authority for this unique peace initiative.
It is more than just a land initiative—it is a fulfillment of Psalm 122:6-9 where we are commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
Your partnership to restore the Seven Species to Israel according to Deuteronomy 8:7-8 is a most powerful way to speak into the Kidron Valley at large, and to show love and compassion to both Jews and Arabs alike, for the greater good of the community.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.’ For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, ‘Peace be within you.’ Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek your good.”9
“Where the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, to the Testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord.”—Psalm 122:4
“I will now say, ‘Peace be within you.’ Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek your good.”—Psalm 122:8-9

As partners in the King’s Valley you are ambassadors and watchmen on the wall who seek to do good
In Isaiah 62:6 the scripture says, “I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem.” Your sponsorship is making a clear statement that like Isaiah, you will not hold your peace day or night and you will not keep silent.
It is interesting that the restoration of the King’s Valley, in the City of our God, is being so widely supported by Christians all over the world, but it is not surprising when we understand the prophecy of Amos 9:11-15.
You are truly acting as the restored Tabernacle of David. Together we are repairing its ruins and damaged places. And we are sowing and reaping the grains and the fruit trees just as the scripture has instructed us.
I think the most exciting part about the King’s Valley project for me is that this very much feels like, and reminds me of, what it is like to prepare for a wedding. So much has to be prepared and done in advance—all because a mother and father love their children and desire for them to have a wedding day that is the most memorable and perfect day—a historic event for their family.
We are preparing for a most historic day! And you are an invaluable part of this initiative.
Let's make Phase 1 clear...
“And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east.”—Zechariah 14:4
What a glorious picture of us preparing a garden that we believe Yeshua could literally walk through upon His return on the Mount of Olives. We are preparing the land and preparing the people!
Our goal for Phase 1 is very clear:
300 large olive trees (10 to 15-years-old)
700 olive, fig, and/or pomegranate trees
Wheat and Barley
*Grapevines and Palms will come in phase 2.

I’M A KING’S VALLEY SPONSOR—PLANT MY TREE
Friends, it is time for us to ...
…“Go through, go through the gates!” and “Prepare the way for the people.” Never forgetting that when God restored covenant on earth He said these most powerful words in Gen 12:3:
“I will bless those who bless you…”
my_olive_tree_kings_valley_06-
And for me personally...
…never forgetting Jesus’ words as He lamented over Jerusalem:
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”—Matthew 23:37-39
May it be said of us that we did not forget Jerusalem. We prepared Jerusalem. We prayed for Jerusalem. We planted a living legacy in Jerusalem. Let it be said that the restored tabernacle of David did their part in the King’s Valley to welcome the King of kings and the Lord of lords—the Lion of the tribe of Judah!
I WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CAUSE and FORGOE GIFTS.

Our Mission
Our mission is to create a partnership between the Evangelical community and the nation of Israel; this partnership will produce employment, income, and revenue for humanitarian aid projects in Israel. We envision the planting of one-million olive trees over the next seven years. This relationship was prophesied in the Bible centuries ago, that the foreigners and strangers (those not of Jewish descent) would help rebuild the walls of Israel and cause the desert to bloom (Isa 35:1). Among other things, this reforestation is an environmental blessing for the entire region. May all who participate in this project be blessed body, soul and spirit; it is time for you to take root in Israel!

Your gift is literally taking root in the land of #Israel, saying, “You belong.
A few years ago My Olive Tree was asked to plant several very large mature olive trees (30-40 years old) in a special place in #Jerusalem called the King’s Valley.

How to cook Ukoy or Okoy
Ukoy or Okoy Recipe is a delicious dish that is very popular in the Philippines, it is an easy to cook and very flavorful Filipino appetizer. Ukoy is prepared with whole small shrimps with head and shell on, mixed in flour, cornstarch and egg batter and deep fried until crispy. Other places in the Philippines has created their own variation of Okoy or Ukoy. Some instead of using sweet potato as the main ingredient others use squash, papaya or togue. Ukoy is even more delicious if you accompany it with vinegar dipping sauce. Ukoy or Okoy Ingredients
1/2 cup medium sized shrimps, heads and skin removed ( use the whole shrimp if you have small ones )
1 cup sweet potato ( Kamote ), thinly sliced or grated
1/4 cup carrots, grated or thinly sliced
1/8 cups green onions, thinly sliced
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup water
1 tbsp. fish sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
a dash of freshly ground black pepper
1 cup oil, for frying
Vinegar Dip:
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 tbsp. Patis or Fish sauce
2 birds eye chillies, chopped
Ukoy or Okoy Cooking Instructions
Mix together in a bowl the flour, corn starch, egg, garlic, water, fish sauce and pepper. Mix it very well and make sure it’s free from lumps and set aside.
Wash and peel the sweet potato and carrots then grate it but in you do not have a grater, slice thinly as you can. Then slice the green onions.
Add the sweet potato, green onions, carrots and shrimp into the batter mixture and mix well.
In a frying pan, heat oil just enough to deep fry 2 fritters at a time. Using a slotted spoon, scoop Vege-shrimp batter allowing excess batter to drip off and place in a pan like mini pancakes, frying each side until crispy and lightly brown.
Once cooked, drain each Ukoy fritters on a paper towel to get rid excess oil.
Prepare the vinegar dip by mixing all ingredients and mix well, transfer in small bowl and serve warm.
Ginger, with its strong and spicy aroma, has its own place in Filipino cuisine. It may be used fresh or dried, powdered or pickled or in the form of juice or oil. Ginger tea, the classic Filipino household favorite also known as ‘Salabat‘, is the most commonly used form given every time someone catches a cold or have an upset stomach. Spicy, zesty and warm, ginger is a natural anti-nausea remedy, has anti-inflammatory properties and may help boost immunity by causing us to sweat.
According to the site World’s Healthiest Foods, studies show ginger seems to help people with arthritis. In other studies from the University of Minnesota and the University of Michigan, ginger contains substances that also help protect against colorectal and ovarian cancers. And ginger’s ability to induce us to sweat helps fight flu and cold. FATTOM – time to fight your enemies!
There are a few factors that contribute to the growth of microorganisms on food. If we are able to counter and prevent these factors, we are able to fight our enemies.
Food
Food
Many microorganisms grow on food rich in protein (poultry, fish, dairy, eggs) and carbohydrates (cooked rice, pasta). These foods have a high chance of contamination and may give rise to foodborne illnesses.
Action: Pay more attention to these categories of food.
Acid
Acid
Low acid food (poultry, fish, dairy, eggs) are considered potentially hazardous.
Action: Cook food at high temperature. Check expiry dates. Look out for dents, bulges, leaks or rust in low-acid canned food (luncheon meat, baked beans).
Temperature
Temperature
Microorganisms grow fastest in the Temperature Danger Zone (TDZ) of 5°C to 56.7°C. This TDZ range includes room temperature as well.
Action: Do not leave food at room temperature for too long (e.g. rice and starchy foods). Store foods at the correct temperature.
Time
Time
After 4 hours, the microorganisms on the food may produce toxins that make the food unsafe for consumption.
Action: Food should not be kept at the TDZ for more than 4 hours.
Oxygen
Oxygen
Microorganisms require oxygen to grow.
Action: Cover food at all times.
Moisture
Moisture
Microorganisms grow faster in food with high water content (fresh poultry, meat, fish and raw eggs).
Action: Ensure these foods are stored at the proper temperatures with reduced moisture.
By understanding your enemies and what you can do to prevent them, you’ll keep your food and diners safe.

When you've reached the point of too much corn on the cob, don't panic—your corn habit can get even better.
A summery, buttery bite of corn on the cob is near perfection, but after gorging on it for a few weeks, even succotash, well, sucks.
But that doesn't mean you have to cross corn off of your list—you just need to find some unpexcted ways to use it. And that's where pasta comes in.
Home cooks, lend me your ears (of corn)—I found four ways to pair your corn with noodles.
1. PASTA SALAD
If there's one thing you see more of in summer than corn on the cob, it's probably pasta salad. Combining both in one bowl makes for a kind of side dish (or light lunch) that'll get you all the cookout invites. Pan-toast the kernels in a dry cast-iron skillet to give them some color and bring out their flavor, then combine it with cooked and cooled short pasta like gemelli or rotini.

2. CORN PESTO
It’s time we released basil's chokehold on pesto and, instead, combined corn and garlic in a food processor with pine nuts and Parmesan to make a silky, pesto-ish sauce—no basil required. Toss the corn pesto with orecchiette, tagliatelle or any other shape that really grabs a sauce.

3. NO-COOK PASTA
If you’re getting peak season corn, it’s probably sweet enough to be eating on its own. So do the dead-easiest thing: cut some kernels off of the raw cob, stir them into some warm pasta along with some of the pasta cooking water, and finish it with butter.

4. PASTA IN (CORN) MILK
The next time you cut the corn from the kernel, use the back of a chef’s knife to scrape the cob for the liquid (or “corn milk”). This liquid is packed with flavor, and adds a golden corn flavor and silky texture to a creamy carbonara sauce.

Did you tuck a turkey carcass into the freezer after Thanksgiving? Time to get it out! Today, Roxanne from The Holistic Mama shares her easy crock pot (or stockpot) broth method. Plus, she’ll totally win you over to the health benefits of making homemade broth and stock.
My method for stock — taught on video in Fundamentals eCourse — differs only slightly, and mainly in how I flavor my stock with ginger. Thanks, Roxanne. This looks great! –Wardee
Homemade broths and stocks are essential for optimum health. Making homemade stock is easy and economical, and the stocks are packed with health benefits while they add amazing flavor to any dish. Stocks can be made in a large stock pot on the stove top or in a crock pot, require little culinary skill, and don’t need much attention. You can make a variety of stocks with herbs, vegetables, chicken, beef, fish, or any other meat you like. All are full of health benefits that you won’t find in commercially produced stocks.
Health Benefits of Broth
Throughout history, many traditional cultures have made broths with bones. Stocks are extremely healing and beneficial to everyone. As the bones boil, the minerals from the bones get pulled out into the water, creating a mineral-rich stock. Homemade bone broths are rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and other trace minerals which are essential for optimum health.
Because the minerals in broth are easily assimilated, consuming bone broths is a very easy way to get these minerals in your diet. Bone broths also contain glucosamine, chondroitin and gelatin — components that get extracted from the bones. These nutrients are very good for anyone with joint pain or arthritis.
Meat and fish stocks made with bones are also very healing to the digestive system. They provide building blocks for the rapidly growing cells of the gut lining. Bone broths have a soothing effect on any areas of inflammation in the gut. This has been used for centuries as a digestive aid and a remedy for the digestive tract.
Homemade Broth Saves Money
Homemade broths provide many health benefits that commercially made stocks do not. And in addition homemade broths cost much less! A quart size container of organic chicken broth averages around $3.00. If you filled a 5-quart crock pot with commercial stock, you’re looking at $15.00!
Compare that to the homemade stock I made last night from half an organic chicken that cost me $5.99. That’s half the price of commercial — and don’t forget how much more healthful homemade stock is!
Here’s another cost savings. After making and eating homemade broth for awhile, you may find less need to buy supplements. (Remember, the broth contains lots of minerals plus glucosamine, chondroitin, and gelatin.)
How to Make Homemade Broth
Making homemade broth is so easy. You can make this wonderfully healing food with few ingredients and little time and effort.
My crock pot is almost like a permanent fixture on the counter. I have a broth cooking in it most of the time. To make life easy, freeze containers of stock in small portions ready for use in recipes. It is great to have a lot of stock on hand in the freezer for making soups, beans, rice, sauces, gravies and lots more.
What you need:
Bones (meaty is fine) from chicken, turkey, beef, fish, or any other kind of meat — including joints, giblets, and/or organs
apple cider vinegar
filtered or pure water
salt and pepper to taste
a strip of kombu seaweed (optional for added trace minerals)
vegetables (optional for flavor and added nutrients)
herbs (optional for flavor and added nutrients)
garlic cloves (optional for flavor and added nutrients)
Place the meat, bones and parts into a large crock pot or stock pot. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to the pot. Fill the pot the rest of the way with filtered or pure water.
Optional: add any vegetables, fresh or dried herbs, cloves of garlic (you can get creative here!) to flavor the stock. If using a crock pot, turn to low and let cook for 24 hours. If using a stock pot, bring water to boil and then reduce heat and allow simmering for a minimum of 8 to 24 hours. The longer you let it cook, the more health benefits you will receive in your stock. That’s it! This will last a few days in the fridge and 6 to 12 months in the freezer.
What’s your broth/stock routine? Have you noticed any differences in your health when you make and eat it regularly? Do you have any tips to share?
