About
The first culinary school in North Luzon with over 30 years of unparalleled experience. Established in 1980 by Mrs. Emelita Wong-Galang, the studio marked its 30th year in 2010.
General Information
Mrs. Emelita Wong-Galang established the Emelita W. Galang Culinary Arts Studio in 1980. Upon the prodding of family and friends who swear by her cooking, she conducted her first classes, held during weekends in a small room at the family compound in Balibago, Angeles City.
As a young woman, Emelita Basilio Wong hardly knew any cooking if it were to save her life. As fate would have it, though, she married at a very young age and into a family who knew their food, there being chefs and food entrepreneurs among its members. Pressured by the need to serve good food to please her husband's spoiled palate, she had her first cooking lessons with her mother in law, whose father worked as a cook in Malacanang. Soon after, she sought the teachings of her father, Jose Wong, who himself had excellent kitchen skills, having started out in the Philippines as a thirteen-year-old cook, a Chinese migrant from Amoy, China. Jose Wong worked as a cook in hotels and restaurants in his younger years. He later established and operated the Royal Bakery, one of the more popular bakeries in post-war Angeles City.
Cooking and baking soon turned into a serious passion, and so Mrs. Galang enrolled in several cooking schools in Manila and abroad. To date, Mrs. Galang regularly attends courses in reputable culinary institutions to further hone her skills and keep abreast of trends. Among the schools she has attended are:
Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Arts
Chicago, Illinois, USA (1980)
Le Cordon Bleu Ecole de Cuisine Manille
two-year diploma course on French and Continental Cooking
under Ms. Ma. Lourdes "Loudette" L. Dayrit (1984)
Escuela Profesional de Arte Porcelana Fria
Orlando, Florida, USA
The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone,
St. Helena, Caifornia, USA
The Thai Cooking School at The Oriental,
Bangkok, Thailand
Presently, the Emelita W. Galang Culinary Arts Studio offers lessons in culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, commercial baking, cake decorating, chocolate artistry, cold porcelain arts, and special lessons on authentic Kapampangan cooking. The studio caters to housewives, food entrepreneurs, overseas workers, and just about anyone with a passion for good food and fine cooking.
