Growing up I loved poems. I would sit in my room and write poems for hours on end. I had books and diaries full of them. They were bad to say the least but they served a purpose at the time. I spent much of my youth with my Gran. She liked poems too. Simple ones, ones that I understood, ones that we could share. Her favourite (one that she told me countless times) and wrote in many of my little books has become my favourite. It still often plays in my mind. “Life is mostly froth and bubble, Two things stand like stone, Kindness in another’s trouble, Courage in your own.” By Adam Lindsay Gordon My daughter also loves poems, again the simple ones. Her favourite is this – To wake up in the morning, and always see the sun, no matter what the weather, your glad the days begun, because there’s a certain someone, who turns the grey skies blue, and in my case that someone, I’m glad to say is you. I cannot tell you where that one comes from; I learnt it when I was very young. Now that I am a Mum we change the final ‘You’ to ‘Lu’ and my daughter thinks this is great, a poem just for her. Lemon Bliss Balls 1 cup raw cashews 1 cup desiccated coconut zest of one large lemon* juice of half a lemon (optional) 1/2 teaspoon concentrated natural vanilla extract pinch of salt 2 tablespoon maple syrup extra desiccated coconut for rolling in * double the lemon if you like a bit more tang. Place the ingredients into your processor in the order listed above and pulse at high speed until the mixture is smooth and the nuts and coconut have broken down. Using your hands shape the mixture into balls. Roll in coconut and place in the fridge to firm up a little. Eat and enjoy!!! Note – Try not to over blend the mixture if you are using a high powered processor or you may end up with a butter as opposed to a mix you can roll into balls. Last year's crackdown was more intense than the year before, and targeted a number of high level officials from the provincial and central government levels, as well as top executives within China's state-owned firms, according to the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection's 2013 review. The review, issued Friday, is a showcase for China's President Xi Jinping, who has pledged to rid the party of corruption regardless of rank or political clout. Joseph Cheng, professor of political science at City University of Hong Kong, says that the party has worked hard to demonstrate its determination to reduce graft. “One of the most important features of that is to indicate that no matter how high you are, you are still subject to sanctions and prosecution,” says Cheng. Liu Tienan, a vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission speaks during press conference Wednesday April 29, 2009 in Shanghai, China. Liu Tienan, a vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission speaks during press conference Wednesday April 29, 2009 in Shanghai, China. Huang Shuxian, deputy head of the party's watchdog commission, said that last year, the party investigated 31 high level officials and eight of them are now facing legal prosecution. One of the eight is Liu Tienan, a top economic official whose questionable financial deals were first uncovered by a journalist at a prominent Chinese magazine. Former provincial deputy head Ni Fake, another name on the commission's list, accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in return for mining rights and land. According to party investigators, some of the bribes came in the form of expensive jade carvings, which Ni liked to collect and showcase in a private gallery. Joseph Cheng says that official pronouncements about targeting both “tigers and flies,” high and low level corruption, leaves people wondering how far Xi Jinping's administration is willing to go. “All eyes are turning actually to the potential prosecution of Zhou Yongkang,” says Cheng. Zhou is a former member of the Politburo Standing Committee in charge of the police, courts and intelligence services. After his retirement last year, speculations surfaced that he too might be a target of Xi Jinping's anti-graft efforts. A number of Zhou's aids and political allies have been put under investigation since, and Hong Kong media say Zhou himself might be under house arrest. Cheng says that an indictment against the former security bureau tsar would be exceptional given the high rank Zhou once had, but might also serve President Xi a different purpose. “There is a suspicion that the struggle against Zhou Yongkang is also an attempt to limit the immense power in the hands of the public security apparatus, which is probably one of the goals in the hands of Xi Jinping who wants to concentrate power in his hands,” says Cheng. After taking office last March, Xi has been consolidating power by taking a number of powerful seats, including the chairmanship of the “leading group for overall reform,” in charge of economic plans and domestic policies. President Xi is also general-secretary of the Communist Party and chief of the Central Military Commission. works great when combined with healthy fat. In this way it is fully absorbed in the body, and you get all the benefits it promises. If you cannot determine which fats will work best, use organic, cold-pressed coconut or olive oil, or even ghee. This makes it so easy for the body to work the components in turmeric, and it goes directly in the blood stream, of course, through the lymphatic system, and bypasses your liver on its way. This keeps curcumin less exposed to metabolic enzymes, and it remains free in the body for longer.

This Is A Must Read Before Ever Using Turmeric Again April 28, 2016 You all know how brilliant turmeric is, especially for its high curcumin content. It comes packed with amazing health benefits, which is why it has gained such a great popularity. Curcumin, a polyphenol, is the active ingredient in turmeric. According to a study abstract by the National Library of Medicine’s bibliographic database, or MEDLINE, turmeric has over 600 health benefits. Although turmeric can significantly improve overall health, you should still be aware of a few things. Human body cannot absorb turmeric’s key ingredient easily Yes, curcumin gives turmeric its amazing powers, but it cannot be easily absorbed in the body. Similar animal and clinical studies have shown that regardless of the dose applied, curcumin concentrations in blood plasma, pheripheral tissues, and urine are pretty low. Sometimes they cannot be even detected. This means that low absorption rate cannot give you the benefits you need to obtain when consuming this miraculous plant. Bring turmeric’s bioavailability to astonishing levels You can use several kitchen strategies to make turmeric more bioavailable. Combine it with healthy fat Turmeric is fat-soluble, which means it works great when combined with healthy fat. Always take your turmeric with black pepper Black pepper is powerful on its own, but it can sure give you a hand in getting your turmeric how you should. When you take curcumin, there appears to be a little bump in your blood stream within an hour, but you cannot notice any greater increase, since the liver is doing its best to eliminate it. So, make your curcumin more accessible and boost it with a quarter teaspoon of ground black pepper. You can take the same amount of curcumin as usual, but this time it is 2000% more bioavailable. Even the tiniest pinch of pepper, which is 1/20th of a teaspoon, can help you achieve the same. In addition to turmeric, black pepper is also commonly added to curry powder mixture. A study involving both human and animal subjects has shown that piperine makes curcumin more bioavailable for humans, and the number goes up to 2000%! Heat makes turmeric more bioavailable “The potent ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which, despite its power, is not easily absorbed by the body without assistance. This is where the sauté pan and a little warm oil come into play. I use it [turmeric] in every sauté, just a quarter teaspoon, a half teaspoon is enough. But you don’t have to use it sparingly – use it lavishly. The better way to take it, I feel, is to use it in your cooking very extensively. If you have any sauté, just sprinkle it in. The moment you heat oil and add turmeric to it, it now becomes completely bioavailable to you,” says Dr Sukumar. Implement these three tips to get the most of your turmeric: Heat it to enhance its potential Combine turmeric and healthy fats to bypass your liver Freshly ground black pepper increases turmeric’s bioavailability by 2000% Here is what the University of Maryland Medical Center has to say regarding proper dosing: Fresh roots: 1.5 – 3g per day Turmeric powder: 1-3g per day SOURCEFAMILY HEALTH FREEDOM NETWORK
